Drummer Boys What they did:


  • Sent signs to troops in battle and Camp
  • Provided Music
  • Helped cooks make food
  • Kept camp in Miltary Order
  • Drummer boys got paid a bit less than normal solders
  • provided signals for drills, meals, and roll calls at camp
  • morning started with the 15 minute revule
  • a group of drummer boys had to play for 19 hours stright on the wat to Gettysburg from Maryland
  • could not play in the rain or in extreme heat because the calf skin drum would break
  • were not actually usually young boys, were the same age as most soldiers
