Gen. Robert E. Lee

An HMS American Cultures collaborative production

Robert E. Lee was the best general in the confederate army; in fact before the Battle of Gettysburg was undefeated in all of his battles. When Lee's army was at Gettysburg they suffered a major loss and it was his first loss in the war. After Gettysburg Lee never invaded the north again because he lacked the troops to do such a thing. Lee was a very respected man in the south so when he surrendered to General Grant in Appomattox the war in a sense, over because he was a person everyone in the south respected, so after he surrendered the other generals surrended soon after.
